Role Requirements:
1) Performance Management
- Attend priority training sessions in the role of trainer or bench coach, in order to:
- Outline training strategy for a given session
- Communicate instructions and purpose clearly and effectively, while demonstrating drills by breaking the task down into logical sequence.
- Encourage skaters to gain and develop skills, knowledge and techniques.
- Ensure that skaters train and are performing to the best of their abilities at all times.
- Inspire confidence and self-belief.
- Work with captains to continually assess player strengths and weaknesses, pack dynamics and jammer options.
- Work with captains to evaluate performance and determine the needs /goals of the C Team with respect to both individual and team based needs.
- Review footage of DRD bouts and provide feedback to the team as well as individual players where necessary.
- Review footage of high level derby and work with captains and Coaching Management to suggest future training focuses.
- Continuously communicate positively with the team in person and on Podio.
2) Game Preparation and Performance
- Review footage of DRD bouts and provide feedback to the team as well as individual players where necessary.
- Review footage of opponents (if available) and aid opponent research in an effort to be prepared for upcoming bouts.
- Work with captains and line up manager to develop a pro-active, strategically based line up system.
- Act as Alternate on the bench during bout day, and ensure you are:
- Focused on track based activity
- Being proactive in assessing the needs of skaters and keeping the bench calm and focused at all times
- Ensure that skaters are performing to a high standard of health and safety at all times.
- Provide feedback of what is happening positively and readjust strategies accordingly.
- Representing the C Team's interests and spirit when making calls and when speaking to officials, other bench staff, skaters and opponents.
- Attend training sessions regularly. This includes scrimmages and team training sessions specifically to get to understand individual players, pack dynamics, jamming rotation and the needs of the team.
- Work with team leadership (bench coach and captains) to determine team needs.
- Work with team leadership to develop a pro-active, strategically based line-up system.
- Work on the bench during bout day as a bench focused, pro-active, strategically minded line-up manager.
- Focus on and be aware of the performance of the C team; skater penalties, tired-ness and injuries.
- Be assertive, direct and positive with skaters when calling out lines.
- Representing the C team's interests and spirit when making decisions and when speaking to officials, other bench staff, skaters and opponents.
